Drake Bay Roosterfish Delivers Pura Vida!

Epic Inshore Action off Drake Bay

¡Hola, buenos días pescadores! What a truly fantastic day on the water here in Drake Bay! The weather was beautiful, and the Pacific was wonderfully tranquil – perfect conditions for fishing. This trip felt like the last pesquita of our current low season, but it delivered big time! Our clients specifically asked for gallos y pargos (roosterfish and snappers), and we absolutely delivered! We headed out for some prime Osa Peninsula sportfishing, targeting the inshore reefs and rocky points that hold some of Costa Rica’s most exciting species.

A Striking Roosterfish and a Monster Cubera!

Our morning efforts paid off big time when we hooked into an absolute beauty of a Roosterfish! You can see the unmistakable dorsal “comb” that makes these fish so iconic. This fish put up a truly memorable fight, stripping line with incredible power, a testament to why they’re such a prized catch for Drake Bay fishing charters. Using strong tackle and a trusty circle hook, we brought him boat-side for a quick photo and a careful release.

But the day wasn’t over! Later, fishing near the structure, a truly monstrous Cubera Snapper hammered our bait. This powerful Tico brawler tested our gear and angler skill to the limit, pulling hard and trying to dive for the rocks. After a thrilling battle on heavy tackle, possibly a Penn setup, we wrestled this magnificent red brute to the boat. Look at the size of that head! It’s incredible.

Another Powerful Inshore Fighter!

And just when we thought the action couldn’t get any hotter, another powerful inshore fighter made its appearance! We landed this incredible Amberjack (or a very similar strong Jack species), which gave our angler a serious workout. These Jacks are known for their brute strength and relentless runs, making them a true challenge on light tackle. It was a great testament to the rich biodiversity of our Drake Bay waters.
